Review: I Love Pho, Crows Nest

Never before have I ever been to a restaurant that so accurately describes me – I Love Pho! Surprisingly for someone who loves Vietnamese pho though, I had never been to this restaurant which is just up the road from my workplace…but trust me when I say that we were so impressed with our experience that we’ve been back multiple times since!

We choose to start with two light entrees – rice paper rolls and rice noodle rolls (banh cuon). The rice paper rolls were wonderfully light and refreshing, and clearly freshly rolled with crispy lettuce providing a nice crunch. The banh cuon was warm and worked well with the dipping sauce – though it was a bit plain without the sauce.

I ordered a rare beef noodle soup – my go-to meal at any Vietnamese restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of these noodles – the broth was rich and full of slow-cooked flavour, needing no addition of chilli or lemon to improve the taste. All in all, it was an excellent bowl of pho – much better than any other similar Vietnamese offerings in the Crows Nest area.

My colleague ordered the Vegetable Noodle – a great choice for strict vegetarians as even the broth is entirely vegetable-based with no meat at all. It was absolutely chockablock with a healthy selection of veggies – more so than the beef pho. My colleague ended up having to doggy bag half the meal as the serving was that generous.

Other dishes ordered were the beef vermicelli salad and the ‘shaking beef’ main dish – tasty in their own right, but certainly not something that left my colleagues raving about their choices after we returned to the office.

Overall, I rate I Love Pho an 7.5 out of 10. The main dishes aren’t anything special, but the value and flavour of their noodle soups are second to none in the Crows Nest area. I know where I’ll be going the next time I get the craving for beef pho!

I’ve been back since our first visit to get some takeaway rice paper rolls – the prawn and pork selection is just as tasty and fresh as the tofu rolls. It’s great value, and a consistently tasty and healthy lunch option on the days that I forget to pack my own lunch!

  1. Oh yum! That place looks awesome! Normally when I go to Vietnamese restaurants I just order my usual – chicken pho and sometimes spring rolls too. Your post makes me thin I should be more adventurous!! :)
