Last week, K and I were invited to a celebration of Bondi Hardware‘s first birthday party! The bar and restaurant gets its name from the hardware store that had been on the premises for the prior thirty years, and still maintains a certain stripped-back and minimalist decor inside. It’s certainly in line with the laid-back atmosphere of its Bondi Beach surroundings.
We arrived early and started off our night with a few drinks. K had a Batlow Premium Cider (not my cider of choice, I prefer a sweeter cider whereas the Batlow is quite tart), and I tried a Raspberry Mule. To make a Raspberry Mule, you combine fresh (blended) raspberries with a measure of vodka and a squeeze of lime, topped off with ginger beer. I really liked the cocktail, which came as a surprise to me as I don’t often enjoy ginger beer.
Before long, some canapés started circling. We tried a lamb kofta, a Greek salad, a simple basil and tomato pizza, and the mini burger below. It was very simple food (all the better to feed a burgeoning crowd!), but created and served with a careful touch. The Greek salad was absolutely bursting to the brim with olives and feta cheese (my favourite!), and the amount of pickles included in the mini burger really hit my sweet spot.
Before long, more guests started to arrive, and our bartenders in hardhats began to really pump out the drinks, as the resident DJ spun some retro tunes on the decks.
The celebrations were still going strong by the time we left two hours later. Congratulations Bondi Hardware on your first year, and best of luck moving forward!
